This temple is situated about 15KM from kumbakonam.It will take 10-15 minutAlangudi Guru Sthalames walk to reach the temple from the bus stop.Autos are also available.
As Guru Bhagavan is related to knowledge & work , this temple is always crowded. Thursday is the day for Guru Bhagavan & offering prayer on that day is good.If you are able to be in the temple say by 5am, then you can quickly complete your prayers.
The main deity here is ABATHSAGAESWARAR & ELAVAR KUZHALI AMMAN. As per the temple procedure, you have to first offer your prayers to KALANGAMALKATHA VINAYAGAR at the entrance,then to Vinayagar at duwajasthambam which is at the right side after entering , then to the main deity, then to Amman & finally to Guru Bhagavan at a separate sannidhi. You have to complete three rounds around the temple covering the main deity, Amman & guru & offer your sastanga namaskaram at duwajastham where a separate clean place is marked for this purpose.
If you wish you can offer special prayer with lighted lamps to get relief from dhosham.

Sooriyanar Temple

Sooriyanar Temple is near Kumbakonam, approachable by Kumbakonam - Mayiladuthurai road. It is around 2 km to the north of Aduthurai and the temple is well connected from lower Anicut and Thiruppanandal. Actually, this temple is part of Prananadheswarar temple, Thirumangalakudi, a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and Suriyankoil is situated north east from this temple.

According to Markandeya Purana, it Was Brahma who created the Sun, the Lord Suriyan,, to dispel the darkness of the universe. Lord Sun married the daughter of Thuvashta, Sanjeehai also known as Usha. They gave birth to Vaithasumanu, Yaman, and Aswini. As Usha could not tolerate the radiating heat from her husband, Sun, she created a shadow of herself called Sayadevi to be with him and she left him. This Sayadevi is known as Prathyuksha, and she lived with Sun without revealing her true identity. They gave birth to two sons, Savarnimanu and Sani, and a daughter Pathirai.

Lord Sun eventually came to know that the Usha had left him and went in search of her. In a forest, he saw her doing penance in the form of a horse. He convinced her with kind words and took her back with him. These two devis, Usha(Sanjeehai) and Saya from then onwards are always together with the Sun. It can be inferred that 'Usha kalam' the sunrise and 'Saya kalam', the sunset is considered as the two devis.

As per legend to this temple, Sage Kalava Muni was suffering from leprosy. He worshipped all the grahas (planets) begging for a cure. All the nine grahas granted cure to this rishi. Lord Brahmma got angry that in accordance with the orders of Lord Shiva, the planets were created to give the effects of good and evil according to the deeds of the individuals and that the grahas can not grant any boons to a devotee directly. Brahma cursed them to suffer from leprosy disease themselves. The planets came down to a jungle in the Earth, called 'Vellerukku vanam' and performed penance towards Lord Shiva for relief. Lord Shiva appeared before them and said that henceforth they can have their own sthalas and can grace the devotees who worship them.

திருமோகூர்

தொழில் மேன்மை பெற – திருமோகூர். இங்கு கருணைக் கடலாக காளமேகப் பெருமாள் காட்சி தருகிறார். திருப்பாற்கடலில் கடைந்தெடுத் அமுத்த்தை தேவர்களுக்கு திருமால் வழங்கிய இடம் தான் திருமோகூர். கோயிலின் தென் மேற்குப் பகுதியில் (கன்னி மூலையில்) சக்கரத்தாழ்வார் சன்னதி உள்ளது. திருமோகூர் என்றாலே நம் நினைவுக்கு வருவது திருவாழி ஆழ்வான் தஎனும் அற்புதப்பெருமான் சக்கரத்தாழ்வாரே ஆவார். முன்புறம் சக்கரத்தாழ்வாராகவும் பின்புறம் யோக நரசிங்கப் பெருமாளாகவும் காட்சி தரும் திருக்கோலம் காண்போரை மெய் சிலிர்க்க வைக்கிறது. நாற்பத்தெட்டு தேவதைகள் சுற்றிலும் இருக்க, ஆறு வட்டங்களுக்குள் நூற்று ஐம்பத்து நான்கு எழுத்துகள் பொறித்திருக்க, பதினாறு திருக்கரங்களிலும் பதினாறு படைக் கலன்கள் ஏந்தி, மூன்று கண்களுடன் காட்சியளிக்கிறார். திருமுடி தீப்பரப்பி, நாற்புறமும் விரவி ஒளிர்கிறது. நரசிங்கப் பெருமாள் நான்குவித சக்ராயுதங்களை ஏந்தி, இப்பெருமாளை ஆறு முறையோ, ஆறின் மடங்குகளிலோ வலம் வந்தால் எண்ணிய செயல்கள் சட்டென்று நிறைவேறுகின்றன. மரண பயம் அறுத்தும், மனோவியாதியை ஒழித்தும், கன்னியருக்குக் கல்யாண மாலை கொடுத்தும், காளையருக்கு வேலை கொடுத்தும், மக்கட்பேறை மட்டிலாது அளித்தும், தொழில் தோல்வியை நீக்கியும் கண் கண்ட தெய்வமாக நரசிம்ம – சுதர்சனப்பெருமாள் அருளாட்சி நடத்துகிறார். இருப்பிடம்: மதுரைக்கு அருகில் உள்ளது திருமோகூர் திருத்தலம்.

திருவிடைமருதூர்.

பிரம்மஹத்தி தோசம் நீங்க – திருவிடைமருதூர். வெவ்வேறு காலங்களில் வாழ்ந்த வீரசேனன் என்ற சிற்றரசனுக்கு வரகுண பாண்டியனுக்கும் அறியாமலேயே பிராமணனைக் கொன்றதால், பிரம்மஹத்தி தோசம் பிடித்துக் கொண்டது. அதனால் அவர்கள் சுய நினைவு இழந்து மன நலம் குன்றி மயங்கி நின்றனர். பல்வேறு ஆலயங்கள் சென்றும், இத்துன்பங்களிலிருந்து விடுபடவில்லை. இறுதியாகத் திருவிடைமருதூர் ஸ்தலம் வந்து, மகாலிங்க சுவாமியை வழிபட்டதினால் விடுபட்டனர். திருவிடை மருதூர் ஆலயத்தில் தோரண வாயிலின் தெற்குப்புறம் சிறிய படிக்கட்டு உள்ளது. அங்கே தேவதை போன்ற உருவம் ஒன்று தென்புறச் சுவரில் உள்ள துளை வழியாகத் தலைவிரி கோலமாக அமர்ந்து முழங்கால் மேல் முகத்தை வைத்துக் கொண்டு , காத்திருப்பது தான் பிரம்மஹெத்தி. பிரம்மஹத்தி மேடையில் உப்பு மிளகு எடுத்து பாதத்தில் போட்டு விட்டு அர்ச்சனை செய்து விட்டுத் திரும்பிப் பார்க்காமல்,மகாலிங்க சுவாமி சன்னதி சென்று,நெய் தீபம் ஏற்றி குடும்பத்தினர் அனைவருக்கும் அர்ச்சனை செய்து விட்டு, திரும்பிப் பார்க்காமல், அம்மன் சன்னதி வழியே வெளியில் செல்ல வேண்டும். மாலை 6 மணி வரை உப்பு சம்பந்தப்பட்ட உணவு சாபிடக் கூடாது. காற்று,உப்பு,நீர் இவற்றின் தன்மைகளை உள் வாங்கும் உப்பு மிளகு காணிக்கையாக்குவதன் மூலம் ஜாதகத்தில் பிரம்மஹத்தி தோசம் உட்பட, அறியாமலேயே ஏற்பட்ட தோசங்கள் பிரம்மஹெத்தியிடம் போய் சேர்கின்றன. கடுமையான பிரம்மஹத்தி தோசத்திற்கு தேவஸ்தான அலுவலகத்தில் ரூ. 500/- செலுத்தி முறையாகப் பரிகாரங்களும் சாதாரண பிரம்மஹத்தி தோசத்திற்கு ரூ 50/- செலுத்தி, எளிய முறையில் பரிகாரங்களும் காலை 7 மணி முதல் 11 மணீக்குள் செய்து கொள்ள வேண்டும். ஆலயத்திறப்பு நேரம்: காலை 5.00 மணி முதல் பகல் 12.30 மணி .மாலை 4.00 மணி முதல் இரவு 9.30 மணி. வழித்தடம்: கும்பகோணம்-மயிலாடுதுறை சாலையில் 20கி.மீ. தொலைவில் உள்ளது.

Thenkudi Thittai Temple

Thittai is a tiny hamlet in Tanjore district. There is a temple dedicated to Guru Bhagwan , one of the planets in the Navagrahas. Though the presiding deity is Vasishteswarar, yet many devotees flock to this temple to propitiate Guru.

He is self manifest-Swayambhu. He is also called Theerurnathar, Pasupathynathar. Radhapureeswarar , Dheenupureeswarar.

It is believed that God of death Yama got rid of curse after worshipping this deity.

The divine consort of Vasishteswarar is Ulaganayaki, Sugantha Kunthaleswari . and Mangaleswari.

There is a popular belief that a damsel Sugantha Kunthala lost her husband and prayed to this goddess who blessed her and brought her husband back to life Thus the Ambal is called Sugandha Kunthaleswari.

GURU BHAGWAN

He is consecrated in a separate shrine in between the presiding deities. Usually in all the temples Guru bhagwan's Adi Devata Dakshinamurti assumes significance. In this hallowed shrine he poses in a separate enclosure as a Raja Guru. There is a Utsava Murti for Guru.
