Thenkudi Thittai Temple

Thittai is a tiny hamlet in Tanjore district. There is a temple dedicated to Guru Bhagwan , one of the planets in the Navagrahas. Though the presiding deity is Vasishteswarar, yet many devotees flock to this temple to propitiate Guru.

Presiding deity- Vasishteswarar

He is self manifest-Swayambhu. He is also called Theerurnathar, Pasupathynathar. Radhapureeswarar , Dheenupureeswarar.

It is believed that God of death Yama got rid of curse after worshipping this deity.

The divine consort of Vasishteswarar is Ulaganayaki, Sugantha Kunthaleswari . and Mangaleswari.

There is a popular belief that a damsel Sugantha Kunthala lost her husband and prayed to this goddess who blessed her and brought her husband back to life Thus the Ambal is called Sugandha Kunthaleswari.

GURU BHAGWAN

He is consecrated in a separate shrine in between the presiding deities. Usually in all the temples Guru bhagwan's Adi Devata Dakshinamurti assumes significance. In this hallowed shrine he poses in a separate enclosure as a Raja Guru. There is a Utsava Murti for Guru.

முன் அமர்ந்து, இந்தக் கவசத்தைப் பாராயணம் செய்தால், துன்பம்குறைந்து இன்பம் அடையலாம்.

கருநிறக் காகம் ஏறி
காசினி தன்னைக் காக்கும்
ஒரு பெரும் கிரகமான 
ஒப்பற்ற சனியே! உந்தன்
அருள் கேட்டு வணங்குகின்றேன்!
ஆதரித் தெம்மை காப்பாய்!
பொருளோடு பொன்னை அள்ளி
பூவுலகில் எமக்குத் தாராய்!

ஏழரைச் சனியாய் வந்தும்
எட்டினில் இடம் பிடித்தும்
கோளாறு நான்கில் தந்தும்
கொண்டதோர் கண்ட கத்தில்
ஏழினில் நின்ற போதும்
இன்னல்கள் தாரா வண்ணம்
ஞாலத்தில் எம்மைக் காக்க

பன்னிரு ராசி கட்கும்
பாரினில் நன்மை கிட்ட
எண்ணிய எண்ணம் எல்லாம்
ஈடேறி வழிகள் காட்ட 
எண்ணெய்யில் குளிக்கும் நல்ல
ஈசனே உனைத் துதித்தேன்!
புண்ணியம் எனக்கு தந்தே
புகழ் கூட்ட வேண்டும் நீயே!

கருப்பினில் ஆடை ஏற்றாய்
காகத்தில் ஏறி நின்றாய்
இரும்பினை உலோகமாக்கி
எள் தனில் பிரியம் வைத்தாய்!
அரும்பினில் நீல வண்ணம்
அணிவித்தால் மகிழ்ச்சி கொள்வாய்
பெரும் பொருள் வழங்கும் ஈசா
பேரருள் தருக நீயே!
சனியெனும் கிழமை கொண்டாய்
சங்கடம் விலக வைப்பாய்! 
அணிதிகழ் அனுஷம், பூசம்

மன்னனே! சனியே! உன்னை
மனதாரப் போற்றுகின்றோம்!

மன்னர் போல் வாழ்வதற்கே
மணியான வழி வகுப்பாய்!

மந்தனாம் காரி நீலா
மணியான மகர வாசா!
தந்ததோர் கவசம் கேட்டே
சனி என்னும் எங்கள் ஈசா!
வந்திடும் துயரம் நீக்கு
வாழ்வினை வசந்தம் ஆக்கு!
