Legends of Vaitheeswaran Koil Temple:
According to the legend, once lord shiva was in deep meditation, sweat drops fell on the earth from Shiva’s forehead. A male baby, Angaraka was born out of those sweat drops of Shiva. Lord Shiva healed Angaraka’s skin disease. Later, he became one of the members of Navagraha.
Any devotees visiting the temple must take a dip in ‘Siddsmrita’ before entering the temple. Siddsmrita is a temple tank, it is believing that it has healing properties to heal skin diseases.
It is said that Saptarshi (seven sages) worshipped Lord Shiva in this place.
It is also believed that during the period of Ramayana, Lord Rama along with his brother Lakshman performed final rituals for Jatayu at this place. Ravana killed Jatayu, the vulture king while he tried to rescue Sita from abduction. From that, Jatayu Kundam was forming here.
The temple is cherished by Tevaram hymns of seventh-century Saiva nayanars. Sixty-three Shaivitie Saints sang them in praise of Lord Shiva.
Thiruchandu Urundal is the ashes collect here from Homa Gundam. It is said to have healing properties. Chandan (sandalwood powder) mixed with saffron is another medicine available here.
As Chevvai means red color, devotees have to offer their dal and red arali flowers during pooja. Along with this pepper and salt with jaggery are offering in the Siddhamritam to relieve diseases.
வைத்தீஸ்வரன் கோவில் பொதுவாக நவகிரகங்கள் சந்நிதிகள் ஆயிரத்தைத் தரிசித்த பலன்களை அது இங்கே ஆலயத்து இறைவனாக சிவபெருமான் மேற்கு நோக்கிய சந்நிதியில் அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். மேற்குப் பார்த்த சிவன் சந்நிதியை தரிசித்தால், கிழக்கு பார்த்த சிவன் தரும் என்று சொல்கிறார்கள். எல்லா ஆலயங்களிலும், நவகிரகங்கள் திசை மாறிக் காட்சியளிக்கும். ஆனால் இங்கு சிவபெருமானின் சந்நிதிக்குப் பின்புறம், ஓரெ திசையைப் பார்த்தபடி ஒரே நேர்கோட்டில் பலன்களை பக்தர்களுக்குச் சாதகமாக்கி தோசங்களையும், நோய்களையும் நீக்குவதாகச் சொல்லப்படுகிறது. சிவபெருமானைப் பாடிப் பரவிய, திருநாவுக்கரசு சுவாமிகளின் பாடல் பெற்ற புனித ஸ்தலங்களில் ஒன்றாகப் போற்றப்படும் வைத்தீஸ்வரன் கோயிலின் மற்றொரு பெயர் புள்ளிருக்கு வேளூர். அங்காரகன் என்று சொல்லப்படும் செவ்வாய் பகவான் இத்தலத்தில் வழிபட்டு தமது வெண்குஷ்ட நோய் நீங்கப் பெற்றதாக இப்புனித க்ஷேத்திரத்தின் வரலாறு கூறுகிறது. புள் என்ற சொல்லுக்கு “பறவை” என்று பொருள். “இருக்கு” என்பது “ரிக்” வேத்த்தைக் குறிக்கும். “வேள்” என்பது முருகப் பெருமானைக் குறிப்பிடும். ஜடாயு என்ற பறவையும்,ரிக் வேதமும், முருகப் பெருமானும் வழிபட்ட்தால், இவ்வூர் “புள்ளிருக்கு வேளூர்” என்று அழைக்கப் பெற்றிருக்கிறது. 4448 வகையான நோய்களைத் தீர்த்து, உடலுக்கும், உள்ளத்துக்கும், அமைதி தரும் திருச்சாந்தினை சிவபெருமான் வழங்கி, வாழ்வளிக்கும் காரணத்தால் இத்தலத்து இறைவன் “வைத்தீஸ்வரன்” என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறார். மருத்துவத்தின் தலைமைப் பீடமாக விளங்கும், இவ்வாலயத்தில் வழங்கப்படும் மருந்தை “திருச்சாந்து” எனக் கூறுகிறார்கள். இவ்வாலயத்திலுள்ள புற்றுமண், அபிஷேக தீர்த்தம், வேப்பிலை, அபிசேக சந்தனம், அபிசேக விபூதி, அபிசேக நெய் ஆகியவற்றைக் கொண்டு “திருச்சாந்து” எனப்படும் சிறு உருண்டைகள் தயாரிக்கப்படுகின்றன. இதனைப் பக்தியுடன் வாங்கி உட்கொண்டால் தீராத நியோய்களெல்லாம் தீரும் என்பது பக்தர்களின் நம்பிக்கையாகும். தோல் சம்பந்தமான நோய் உள்ளவர்களுக்கு “புனுகு” எண்ணெய் கொடுக்கிறார்கள். அதனை உடலில் தேய்த்துக் குளிப்பவர்களின் நியோய் தீர்கிறது. நியோய் தீர்க்கும் நோய் தீர்க்கும் மருத்துவக் கடவுளான தன்வந்திரி பகவானுக்கு, தனிச்சந்நிதி இங்கு அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இருப்பிடம்: தஞ்சை மாவட்டம், மயிலாடுதுறையில், இருந்து சிதம்பரம் சாலையில்,15 கி.மீ தூரத்திலுள்ளது.
